Centuries ago, the Voyageurs canoed the waters of northern Minneosota and Canada in search of a way of life. These people have left the landscape, but the land and its treasures remain. Travel into the backcountry of the southern boreal forest potmarked by lakes and ponds, and experience what it must have been like to traverse this land once upon a time.
This recording features the sounds of a backcountry lake, miles from civilization, and accessible only by boat and then foot. It begins at dawn, around 445am, with the deep glugs of American Bitterns, hidden away in the cattails. Not to be outdone, the sad melodies of the White-throated Sparrows ring out from all around you.
This recording will make you want to curl up under a blanket with a cup of hot coffee in hand, just as I did that morning along the edge of the lake. You don't want to miss it!
